Welcome to Foodies
Foodies is a hands-on program that connects Tasmanian students with the people who grow, make and create our local food. From paddock to plate, students meet farmers, chefs, food scientists, butchers and bakers – right in the classroom and out in the field.
Whether it’s walking through a working farm, stepping into a commercial kitchen, or learning how local ingredients become great tasting meals, Foodies gives you a real-world taste of Tasmania’s thriving food scene.
Led by experienced Tasmanian chef Peter Cooksley, this program helps students:
- Discover the story behind local food
- Build pride in Tasmania’s produce
- Explore exciting career paths in hospitality, agriculture and food science
If you’ve ever wondered where your food comes from – or what it’s like to work in the industry – Foodies is your chance to find out.
Let’s grow your future, one bite at a time...

Meet the Mentors
Students connect with inspiring people from local food businesses—from farmers and chefs to butchers and food scientists—and hear real stories about their career journeys.
Cook with a Chef
Under the guidance of professional Tasmanian chef Peter Cooksley, students develop practical cooking skills and kitchen confidence.
Explore Food Systems
Excursions to local farms, kitchens and venues give students a behind-the-scenes look at how food is grown, made and shared in their own communities.
Food Truck Finale
On the final day, students jump aboard the Foodies food truck, cook a shared meal using local ingredients, and serve it to their school community.
Whether they’re passionate about food or just curious about where it comes from, Foodies helps students discover how they can play a part in Tasmania’s food future

Foodies goes beyond the classroom to open real doors for students interested in careers in food, hospitality and agriculture.
